About the Jay-Rollins Library

The Jay-Rollins Library, opened in 1963, was named in honor of gifts from the S. M. & Inez Jay and the Nat G. & Elva Rollins estates. The Library supports the academic programs of McMurry University by securing print and electronic materials to meet the needs of the curriculum; organizing and ensuring access to materials added to the Library’s collections; providing instructional, reference, circulation, course reserve, and interlibrary loan services; and cooperating with other libraries to make additional resources available.

The library provides access to books, eBooks, databases, print periodicals, online journals, media equipment, videos, and music CDs. Its special collections include the McWhiney Foundation Research Collection, the J. W. Hunt Collection of Texana and the Southwest, and the University Archives. The Library is a member of the Abilene Library Consortium, which provides a shared catalog and a courier service between McMurry University, Abilene Christian University, Hardin-Simmons University, Howard Payne University (Brownwood, TX), and the Abilene Public Libraries. The "Chat now" link on the library home page provides online reference assistance twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

library staff areas are located on the main and basement floors. The Academic Enrichment Center is located in the Library Learning Commons. The office of the McWhiney Collection Manager and the Historian in Residence is located on the second floor.
